WHAT: |
While knowing, understanding, engaging and empowering communities are critical elements of social innovation, too often socially oriented initiatives employ a top-down process where outsiders enter communities to "fix" problems the way they see fit. The New School welcomes five social innovators whose work illustrates how giving voice and empowering communities can lead to community-based, sustainable solutions. Our panelists' diverse work addresses social justice, economic opportunity, sustainability and education. Whether their intent is to change cultural norms, policies, politics, livelihoods, or economies, these changemakers show us new ways to affect systems change through community engagement, participation and action. |
