Mannes College the new school for music announces winter-Spring 2010
Music performances and events

NEW YORK, New York, January 4, 2010—The highlights of the spring-semester performances at Mannes College The New School for Music are two concerts by The Mannes Orchestra in Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center and a fully staged production by the crucially acclaimed Mannes Opera of Mozart’s masterpiece Così fan tutte at the Kaye Playhouse. Among the cast for Così will be Mannes undergraduate Nadine Sierra, a winner of the 2009 Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions—at age 20, the youngest winner in a generation.

The Mannes Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall on Thursday, February 4, will perform Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 1, Vivaldi’s Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra in E minor with 2009 Mannes Concerto Competition winner Thomas Fleming as soloist, and Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben. On Tuesday, April 6, the program includes Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with 2009 Mannes Concerto Competition winner Francesco Lecce-Chong, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5.

On May 6 and 7, The Mannes Opera, directed by Metropolitan Opera Conductor Joseph Colaneri with coaching by Master Artist-in-Residence Regina Resnik, will present Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Kaye Playhouse. In 2007, the New York Times review of The Mannes Opera’s production of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites noted that "The Mannes Opera . . . has earned a stellar reputation for the quality of its presentations and the excellence of its student singers . . . [The production] lived up to the expected high standard."

The Schneider Concerts will continue its season with four concerts by award-winning young ensembles.
