Mannes College The New School for Music Presents
The Mannes Opera Performing Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro
Conducted by Joseph Colaneri
The Kaye Playhouse, May 5 and 6

WHAT: The Mannes Opera, conducted by Joseph Colaneri, will perform a fully staged production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro featuring singers from the Mannes Opera Program backed by The Mannes Orchestra.  The production will give opera lovers the opportunity to enjoy performances by rising voices in the opera world. As Anne Midgette has written in The New York Times, “People in the opera world often ask: Where are all the good, healthy young voices? Here's an answer: at Mannes….”

Principals in this double-cast production come from seven countries—China, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the U.S, and Uruguay—as well as Puerto Rico.  Notable cast members include baritone Marcelo Guzzo of Uruguay as Figaro; Korean baritone Youngjoo An (2007 Second Place Winner of The Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions for the Eastern Region) as Count Almaviva; and the singers sharing the role of Susanna, Korean soprano Sookyung Ahn and Chinese soprano Wei Huang (who received a special ensemble Tony award as Mimì in Baz Luhrmann’s Broadway production of La Bohème).

Joseph Colaneri
