THE NEW SCHOOL FOR JAZZ AND CONTEMPORARY MUSIC PRESENTS A RARE DUO PERFORMANCE BY JIM HALL AND PETER BERNSTEIN

Wednesday, March 7, 8:00 p.m., at The New School, 55 West 13th Street, 5th Floor

WHAT: The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music presents a rare duo performance by guitarists Peter Bernstein (’90) and former New School Jazz faculty member Jim Hall—who performed together at New School Jazz 14 years ago, when what began as teacher-student mentoring relationship developed into a lasting friendship. The performance is part of New School Jazz’s 20th anniversary celebration. Jazz Presents is sponsored in part by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Peter Bernstein is regarded as one of today’s preeminent young guitarists, with more than eight records under his name and numerous others as a sideman. The legendary Jim Hall, called “the reigning master of jazz guitar” by the New Yorker, has enthralled audiences, musicians, and critics across the world for more than five decades.

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music is the musical manifestation of The New School and its legacy. Steeped in progressive tradition while moving forward into new frontiers of sound and experimentation, New School Jazz is a rarity among conservatory music schools. With instructors who are active, professional musicians and the backing of a major university, the school provides its students with the leeway and encouragement to break through artistic barriers, the counsel of veterans in maneuvering through the terrain of the music world, and a solid academic foundation to sustain and enrich their efforts and evolution.
