AIDA RODRIGUEZ APPOINTED ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AT NEW SCHOOL UNIVERSITY’S MILANO GRADUATE SCHOOL

(New York, NY - June 23, 2005) Fred Hochberg, Dean of New School University’s Milano Graduate School, announced today the appointment of Dr. Aida Rodriguez, former Chair of the School’s Nonprofit Management Program, and Professor of Professional Practice, as the new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Dr. Rodriguez will be responsible for maintaining the academic integrity of the graduate school curriculum and its faculty. Her three-year appointment is effective as of July 1, 2005.

On announcing the appointment, Fred Hochberg said, “I am thrilled that Aida Rodriguez has accepted the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She has held several senior management positions prior to coming to the Milano Graduate School. For the past six years, she has been running the School’s Nonprofit Management Program, one of the top master’s degree programs of its kind in the country. In addition, she has helped strengthen community development corporations through The Management Information Exchange (MIX) at the New School, funded by Living Cities. She will help move the Milano Graduate School forward.”

A native New Yorker, Dr. Rodriguez remarked, “I’m excited about the future of the Milano Graduate School and New School University and its growing capacity to embrace the strengths of this great city.” Dr. Rodriguez added, “The Milano Graduate School is at the forefront of providing a rigorous education to adults who want to continue to make positive change by operating effectively in the public and civil sectors, manage increasingly multicultural institutions, and be able to negotiate across all three sectors - public, private and nonprofit.”

Dr. Rodriguez is a frequent speaker and author on issues of philanthropy in the 21st century, the management of diverse organizations, and urban community development in the United States.

A graduate of Princeton University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Dr. Rodriguez was a 2003 co-recipient of the Council on Foundations’ Robert W. Scrivner Award for Creative Grantmaking. Dr. Rodriguez was the Deputy Director of the Equal Opportunity Division of The Rockefeller Foundation. She also served as one of a small core of Fellows in the Kellogg Foundation’s Liderazgo en Filantropía en las Américas international leadership program; and is an advisor to philanthropic initiatives here and in Latin American - including the Funders’ Collaborative for Strong Latino Communities. She serves on various nonprofit boards, including One Economy, Inc., and The Alliance for Nonprofit Management.
