INSTITUTE AND FESTIVAL FOR CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE

(New York, NY – May 9, 2005) Mannes College of Music, a division of New School University, announces the Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance (IFCP) from Tuesday, June 14 – Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Mannes, 150 West 85th Street, NYC. The Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance brings together a diversity of approach, talent, and experience for a week and a half of workshops, master classes, lectures, symposium and daily concerts featuring some of the major performers, composers, and thinkers working today in contemporary music. This year’s guests include Charles Rosen, Sophie Cherrier, Rolf Schulte, Robert Dick, Stephen Drury, Nicolas Miribel, Joel Lester (Dean of Mannes College of Music), and Marc Ponthus. Participating composers include Pascal Dusapin, Louis Karchin, and David Tcimpidis, and participating ensembles include Speculum Musicae, Quatuor Diotima, and Wet Ink Ensemble.

Marc Ponthus, Director of IFCP, has championed some of the most significant works of our time, including the complete piano works by Iannis Xenakis, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez. He was the Director of ProjectWebern at the Morgan Library, including concert, symposium, exhibit of manuscripts, and conducted the ProjectWebern Ensemble. He was the conductor and artistic director of the Lower Eastside Ensemble, a group working with twentieth century Music, where he also created stagings and was stage director. Marc Ponthus received the Tanne Award for achievement in the Arts. He has also performed extensively the referential works of the past. His CD of Xenakis's piano music for NEUMA records has been released this season.

Mannes College of Music, founded in 1916, is one of the world’s major conservatories of music.
