CONGRESSMAN ANTHONY D. WEINER TO DISCUSS HIS ECONOMIC VISION FOR NYC AT NEW SCHOOL UNIVERSITY ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2005, 1:00 - 3:00 PM

(New York, NY - January 5, 2005) New School University’s Milano Graduate School welcomes Congressman Anthony D. Weiner for a conversation on Thursday, January 13, 2005 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., at New School University’s Wolff Conference Room, 65 Fifth Avenue, NYC. Rep. Weiner will discuss his economic vision for New York City. Rep. Weiner has been called an “ascendant force in New York politics” by New York magazine and is considered a likely candidate for the Democratic nomination for the mayoralty. A member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, Rep. Weiner represents the NYC boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn.

The conversation is free and open to the public. To RSVP please call (212) 229-5418.

Rep. Weiner sits on the Judiciary Committee, where his efforts have won the praise of law enforcement groups. He has passed legislation increasing the availability of funds for DNA testing to solve crimes and protecting women from sexual predators, and he is a legislative sponsor of the “COPS” program, which has put over 100,000 police on the streets nationwide.

Rep. Weiner is one of two New York City Members of Congress on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he has secured $46 million in aid for the City’s roads, bridges, and subways.

Anthony Weiner began his career in public service in 1985 as an aide to then-Representative Charles E. Schumer. He worked for Schumer for six years, serving in both his Washington, D.C. and New York City offices. In 1991, at age 27, he won a seat on the New York City Council, and when Schumer ran for Senate in 1998, Weiner campaigned for and won the open seat in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Weiner represents New York’s 9th Congressional District, which stretches from Forest Hills, Queens, to Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn.
