“THE LATE ROMANTICS”

MANNES COLLEGE OF MUSIC ANNOUNCES YEARLONG FESTIVAL

Opening concert takes place on Monday, February 1, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at The New-York Historical Society

(New York, NY - December 14, 2004) New School University’s Mannes College of Music will present a yearlong festival in 2005, “The Late Romantics,” focusing on the culminating generations of musical romanticism from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. Mannes’s talented students, distinguished faculty and special guests will present concerts and master classes during the yearlong festival.

Highlights of the festival include: the opening concert on Monday, February 1, 2005 at 7:00 p.m., at The New-York Historical Society, “La Canzone Romantica” Part II: Art songs by late romantic Italian opera composers presented by the Mannes Opera under the direction of Joseph Colaneri on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 7:00 p.m., at The Columbus Citizens House, a gala concert featuring masterpieces of French romanticism at the Consulate of the Republic of France on Friday, February 25, 2005 at 6:30 p.m., “The Late Works of Franz Liszt” on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m., at the Consulate General of the Republic of Hungary, and a concluding concert at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on an evening in December, 2005 (tba).

Concerts will also take place at distinctive venues around New York City, including, the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany, Consulate General of the Russian Federation, Ukranian Institute of America, Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, Steinway Hall, the Goethe-Institut New York, the Union Club, among others.

Master classes will be presented by acclaimed pianists Paul Badura-Skoda (Tuesday, February 1, 2005, 1:00 p.m.), Jean-Yves Thibaudet (Monday, March 14, 2005, 4:30 p.m.), Ruth Laredo (Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 3:00 p.m.), Eteri Andjaparidze (fall 2005, tba), Menahem Pressler (fall 2005, tba), Claude Frank (fall 2005, tba), Richard Goode (fall 2005, tba), and Vladimir Feltsman (fall 2005, tba).

“The Late Romantics” follows six highly successful yearlong festivals presented by Mannes College of Music:“Chopin at Mannes 1999,” “Bach 2000 Festival,” “The Schumanns and Their Circle” (in 2001), “La Belle �poque” (in 2002), “The Birth of Romanticism” (in 2003) and “The Flowering of Romanticism” (in 2004).
