NEW SCHOOL UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Peggy Brim Bewkes, Eileen Naughton, Richard Reiss, Jr., and Bernard L. Schwartz join New School University’s Board of Trustees

(New York, NY - October 21, 2004) New School University announced the election of four new members to its Board of Trustees. Peggy Brim Bewkes, a writer, director, and producer of television journalism, Eileen Naughton, president of TIME, Richard Reiss, Jr. , founder and chairman of Georgica Advisors LLC, and Bernard L. Schwartz, chairman and CEO of Loral Space & Communications, joined the New School University Board of Trustees on September 1, 2004. Philip Scaturro is Chairman of the Board. New School University President Bob Kerrey said, “I am delighted that Peggy, Eileen, Rick, and Bernard have agreed to join the Board of Trustees. I am confident that the University will benefit tremendously from their experience and leadership.”

Peggy Brim Bewkes has held a number of positions as a writer, director and producer of journalism, with a long career in television and film journalism. Early in her career, she was a show producer for ABC News where she helped launch the successful ABC news magazine show 20/20. Also while at ABC News, she was a senior assistant to Roone Arledge, working closely with him on the creation of ABC News. She is an Emmy Award winner for a number of segments that she produced for 20/20, and the recipient of the Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Television Documentary for producing a pioneering investigation on Love Canal. She is a member of the Advisory Council to the Center for Bio-Diversity and Conservation at the Museum of Natural History and the Advisory Board of the Museum of Natural History. Ms. Bewkes holds a degree in cultural anthropology from Yale University and presently serves as a member of the Yale Development Board.

Eileen Naughton is president of TIME, the flagship magazine of Time Inc., and the world’s largest news magazine, with a worldwide circulation of 5.4 million and an audience of 31 million readers. Ms. Naughton is responsible for TIME’s global publishing operations, including brand management, business development, circulation and advertising sales for the magazine and its Web site, TIME.com, and also oversees LIFE's book and magazine businesses. Ms. Naughton serves on the Board of Directors for Volunteers of America of New York, FRAXA, The Fragile X Research Foundation, and has been active in fundraising efforts for NYC public schools heavily impacted by the September 11th tragedy. She received an M.B.A. degree from The Wharton School, an M.A. degree from the Lauder Institute of International Studies, and a B.A. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania.

Richard Reiss, Jr. is the founder and chairman of Georgica Advisors LLC and its affiliated entities, Aspen Advisors LLC and WaterView Advisors LLC. Before founding Georgica Advisors LLC, he was a General Partner and then Managing Partner at Cumberland Associates. He is co-founder and chairman of the executive committee of O’Charley’s, a family restaurant chain, and serves as director of the Lazard Funds, Inc., LSSi Corp., North Country BBQ Ventures, Inc., and Visible World. A number of educational and cultural institutions benefit from Mr. Reiss’s leadership. Currently he serves as a Trustee of the Manhattan Institute and Prep for Prep and is a member of The President’s Leadership Council at Dartmouth College. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees and Treasurer of Barnard College. Mr. Reiss holds an A.B., cum laude, from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Bernard L. Schwartz is chairman and CEO of Loral Space & Communications Ltd., a global high-technology company and one of the world’s largest satellite manufacturing and satellite services companies headquartered in New York City. Previously, Mr. Schwartz served for 24 years as chairman of Loral Corporation. Mr. Schwartz is chairman of K & F Industries and a member of the board of First Data Corporation and Satelites Mexicanos, S.A. He is a trustee of NYU Hospitals Center, Thirteen-WNET, Baruch College and the Democratic Leadership Council, and is vice-chairman of the New York Film Society. He is also a member of the Advisory Council at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, where he established a chair in political economy. He recently established the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis and endowed a chair for the study of economics and policy at New School University’s Graduate Faculty. Mr. Schwartz also has established fellowship programs at the Council on Foreign Relations and The New America Foundation. Mr. Schwartz graduated from City College of New York with a B.S. degree in finance and holds an honorary Doctorate of Science degree from the College.
