“THE FLOWERING OF ROMANTICISM” FESTIVAL CONTINUES AT MANNES COLLEGE OF MUSIC THIS FALL 2004

The yearlong festival of concerts and master classes focuses on the early maturity of musical romanticism in the works of Chopin, Mendelssohn, Clara and Robert Schumann, Bellini, Berlioz, Liszt, and Brahms

(New York, NY - August 9, 2004) New School University’s Mannes College of Music will continue its yearlong festival, “The Flowering of Romanticism,” this fall 2004 semester. The festival focuses on the early maturity of musical romanticism in the works of Chopin, Mendelssohn, Clara and Robert Schumann, Bellini, Berlioz, Liszt, and the young Brahms. Mannes’s young artists, distinguished faculty, and special guest artists, pianists Eteri Andjaparidze, Vladimir Feltsman, Richard Goode, and Menahem Pressler, will participate in the festival.

Highlights of the fall 2004 semester include an opening concert at Steinway Hall on Tuesday, September 28 at 8:00 p.m., “A Musical Tribute Commemorating the 155th Anniversary of the Death of Chopin,” at the Consulate of the Republic of Poland on Sunday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m., master classes with Eteri Andjaparidze on Friday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m., Menahem Pressler on Tuesday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m., Richard Goode on Friday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m., and Vladimir Feltsman on Tuesday, November 16 at 3:00 p.m. A concert at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall concludes the festival on Wednesday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m.

“The Flowering of Romanticism” follows five highly successful yearlong festivals presented by Mannes College of Music: “Chopin at Mannes 1999,” “Bach 2000 Festival,” “The Schumanns and Their Circle” (in 2001), “La Belle Époque” (in 2002), and “The Birth of Romanticism” (in 2003).
