French conductor/pianist Philippe Entremont has been acclaimed worldwide for the elegance and virtuosity of his playing, as well as his sensitive and assured leadership on the podium. At the forefront of the tradition of internationally renowned artists who divide their careers between conducting and solo performances, Mr. Entremont appears in both capacities with orchestras around the globe. This is Maestro Entremont's second appearance with The Mannes Orchestra. In 1997, he conducted the orchestra in Berlioz's "Symphonie fantastique" and also led the Orchestra from the piano in a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, K. 453.

Mr. Entremont is Conductor Laureate of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, as well as Principal Conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Conductor Laureate of Santo Domingo Music Festival, which he founded in 1977. In 2002, he took on an additional post as Principal Guest Conductor of China's Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. During the 2002-2003 season, he will lead the Orquesta de Cadaques on an 11-city Far East tour, including Tokyo, Manila, Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing. Appearances in the United States include the Seattle Symphony, New Orleans and in New York with the Mannes Orchestra.

Mr. Entremont has guest conducted many of the world's finest orchestras, such as the Royal Philharmonic, Orchestra National de France, Vienna Symphony, among many others. He has also been a popular guest at festivals.

His recording legacy – as pianist, conductor, and often in both roles at the same time – is vast. In addition to the standard piano solo and piano-with-orchestra works of Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Saint-Saëns and other composers, he has recorded most of the piano music of fellow Frenchmen Debussy and Ravel, plus music by Gershwin, Satie, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Brahms, Viotti and Tchaikovsky.

Mr. Entremont is an officer of the French Legion of Honor and was recently awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters, the highest decoration bestowed by the French government in the arts. He also holds, among other decorations, a first class Cross of Honor for the Arts and Sciences from the Austrian government. When not traveling the musical world, Mr. Entremont resides in Paris.
