Ms. Scotto, who was recently appointed Master Artist in Residence at Mannes and coaches students in the Mannes Opera Program, is a prolific recitalist and performs extensively in Europe and the major capitals of the world. Since 1996 she has dedicated several weeks each season performing with the leading orchestras, giving concerts and master classes. In recent years, she has added Berlioz's Les Nuits d'Été, Schoenberg's Erwartung and Strauss and Mahler songs to an expanding repertoire, which spans more than 100 roles. She also continues to add to her activity as stage director, making her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1986 with Madama Butterfly, which was followed by productions with the Arena di Verona and the Florida Grand Opera of the same work.

In Italy, at the opening of the Festival Belliniano in Catania 1993, she staged Bellini's Il Pirata and in 1994, a new production of La Sonnambula. In March 1995, Ms. Scotto directed a new production of Verdi's La Traviata at the New York City Opera, which was telecast nationwide over PBS in the Live from Lincoln Center series. For this she won an Emmy Award for Best Live Musical Event in television. In 1997, she opened the Renata Scotto Opera Academy in Albisola Marina, co-sponsored by the Italian Government, Region of Liguria and the town of Albisola Marina in Italy. The Academy's activities take place each year between July and August on the beautiful shores of the Italian Riviera.
