THE MANNES ORCHESTRA WITH CONDUCTOR DAVID HAYES TO PRESENT
CONCERT ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2001 AT 8 PM
PROGRAM WILL ALSO FEATURE STUDENT CONDUCTOR EDWARD JONES
(New York, NY October 22, 2001) The Mannes Orchestra with conductor David Hayes will present a concert on Thursday, November 1, 2001 at 8 PM at the John Jay College Theater. The program will feature Schumanns Symphony No. 3 in E-flat, Op. 97 "Rhenish," Brahms Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn, Op. 56a, and Brahms Tragic Overture, Op. 81. Masters degree candidate, Edward Jones, will conduct Brahms Variations. The John Jay College Theater is located at 899 10th Avenue, between 58th and 59th Streets. Edward Jones is currently a second-year Masters student
in the Orchestral Conducting program at Mannes, studying with David Hayes. Mr.
Jones was born in Aberystwyth, west Wales, and began his musical training as
a chorister at Llandaff Cathedral. He was appointed Organ and Academic Scholar
of Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, where he took the Bachelor of Arts
in Music in 1998. While at Cambridge, he directed the Emmanuel College Chapel
Choir, and conducted three University orchestras, touring extensively with a
number of musical groups. In September 1998, he went to Harvard University,
serving first as Organ Scholar, and subsequently as Assistant Organist, in The
Memorial Church. During his time at Harvard, he ran the Early Music Society,
directing performances of Monteverdis Poppea, Cavallis Giasone,
and Handels Acis and Galatea, as well as giving recitals throughout
Boston and New England.
The next concert in The Mannes Orchestra series will take place on Thursday,
December 13, 2001 at 8 PM at the John Jay College Theater with conductor, Samuel
Wong.
