PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN APPOINTS PETER WHEELWRIGHT
AS CHAIR OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

(New York, NY - October 1, 2001) Parsons School of Design of New School University is announced the appointment of Peter Wheelwright as Chair of Architectural Design. Mr. Wheelwright has been serving as Interim Chair for the past two years and has been a member of the Parsons faculty for 15 years.

A principal in PMW Architects in New York City, Mr. Wheelwright’s residential work has been widely exhibited and published, both nationally and internationally. He has participated in national symposia, and written on issues concerning the interface between natural and technological systems in architecture. His influential work on material practice and his writings on the pedagogical consequences of environmental philosophy and theory have been instrumental in the development of the curriculum of the department, including graduate studios in design/build (The Design Workshop) and the integration of issues of urban sustainability into design studios. He received his B.A. in Painting and Sculpture from Trinity College before attending the Architecture Program at Cornell University. He received his M.Arch. from Princeton University.

Parsons School of Design offers a B.F.A. program in Architecture, as well as a Master of Arts in Architecture and a Master of Arts in Lighting Design. The Architectural Design Program at Parsons School of Design teaches students a way of thinking about the built environment in all of its complex forms. It examines the designed world in multiple scales: landscapes to furniture, as well as multiple social practices: cities to performance space. Students' interdisciplinary training and digital expertise provide them with a range of career opportunities in the design world.
