VLADIMIR FELTSMAN TO PRESENT
A MASTER CLASS AT MANNES COLLEGE OF MUSIC
ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2001 AT 4 PM

(New York, NY – August 24, 2001) Pianist Vladimir Feltsman will present a master class at Mannes College of Music, a division of New School University, on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at 4 PM. An artist of immense range and insight, Vladimir Feltsman is recognized as one of the most imaginative and interesting musicians of our time. The master class will take place at the Mannes Concert Hall, 150 West 85th Street, NYC. (Take the #1/9 train to 85th Street.) Admission is free. For further information, call 212/496-8524.

Mr. Feltsman’s vast repertoire encompasses music from the Baroque to the 20th Century composers. His most recent project, "Masterpieces of the Russian Underground," will present an array of Russian contemporary music in the form of a survey of piano and chamber works by fourteen different composers.

Upcoming orchestral engagements for Vladimir Feltsman in the 2001-2001 season include appearances with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony Orchestra (Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27), the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (Strauss’s Burleske in D Minor), Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM (Schumann’s Piano Concert in A Minor) and with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra (Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini). In October and November, he will be performing as a soloist on the U.S. debut tour of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, making an appearance with the Orchestra at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall on October 21, 2001. He will also be making a Carnegie Hall appearance with the Kirov Orchestra (Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini) on December 14, 2001. Mr. Feltsman will play recitals at the Tisch Center in NYC and at Michigan State University, among others.

His extensive discography includes six albums of clavier works of J.S. Bach, recordings of Beethoven’s last five piano sonatas, solo piano works of Schubert, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, and Messiaen, as well as concerti of Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. He records on SONY Classical, Music Masters and Meloyida labels.

Mr. Feltsman teaches at Mannes College of Music and also holds the Distinguished Chair of Professor of Piano at SUNY at New Paltz. He is founder and Artistic Director of the International Festival-Institute Piano Summer at New Paltz, a comprehensive month-long training program for advanced piano students which offers a unique, multifaceted approach to all aspects of piano performances and attracts musicians from all over the world.

Mr. Feltsman’s master class is part of the year-long festival "The Schumanns and Their Circle" (Pavlina Dokovska, Artistic Director), which features Mannes College of Music students, faculty and alumni in performances around New York City, as well as master classes by eminent musicians.
