MANNES COLLEGE OF MUSIC ANNOUNCES MASTER CLASS WITH VIOLINIST GLENN DICTEROW – TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2001 AT 4 PM

(New York, NY – August 24, 2001) - Mannes College of Music, a division of New School University, announces a master class with acclaimed violinist, Glenn Dicterow. The class will take place on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 4PM at Mannes College of Music. Admission is free to this event. For further information, call Mannes at 212/496-8524. Mr. Dicterow made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at age twelve and his New York Philharmonic debut at age eighteen. During these years, he captured the Young Musicians Foundation Grant and the Coleman Competition Award in Los Angeles, the Kimber and Klumpky Awards in San Francisco, and medals at both the Merriwether Post Competition in Washington D.C. and the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. In 1972, at the age of 23, Mr. Dicterow joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic as Associate Concertmaster; was named Concertmaster in 1976 and served in that capacity until the end of the 1979 season. Since 1980, Mr. Dicterow has had the prestigious position of Concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. He has also appeared with the orchestras of San Francisco, Indianapolis, Seattle, Baltimore, New Jersey, Kansas City and Montreal to name a few.

Glen Dicterow's recordings include works of Wieniawksi with Zubin Mehta and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Herman Goetz's complete chamber music for strings, Lee Holdrige's Violin Concerto with the London Symphony, and the Shostakovich Concerto No. 1 with the New York Philharmonic. He was also solo violinist in the film scores Altered States and The Turning Point.

His teachers have included Ivan Galamian, Naoum Blinder, Jascha Heifetz, Isaac Stern and Henryk Szeryng. He currently serves on the violin faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School.
