TO TAKE PLACE AT MANNES COLLEGE OF MUSIC

(New York, NY – July 30, 2001) The Mannes Art Song Institute, a five-day intensive workshop with soprano Elly Ameling will take place from August 26-30, 2001 at Mannes College of Music. The focus of the workshop will be on the Lieder of Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. Master classes will take place with Elly Ameling and be coached by Artistic Director Brian Zeger and others. The Mannes Art Song Institute will also present lectures on German lyric poetry and song by noted scholars.

General admission tickets are available at $100 for the week of events or $20 per master class. Evening lecture tickets are available at $10 per ticket. All tickets may be purchased at the door. Soprano Elly Ameling has made several recent appearances at Mannes College of Music, sharing her expertise and artistry with the talented singers in the program. Ms. Ameling is admired throughout the world for her expressive voice. Her 1995 farewell tour marked a milestone in a remarkable artistic career. She began her professional debut as a concert singer in Rotterdam in 1953. She performed for more than 40 years in virtually every major cultural center in the world – from Tasmania to Iceland, from Nairobi on the Equator to Finland in the Arctic Circle. Her annual tours and frequent appearances with the leading international orchestras have established her as one of the greatest singers of our age.

Sunday, August 26, 2001: Students begin rehearsals. Closed sessions.

Monday, August 27, 2001: Master classes from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Mannes Concert Hall. Admission is $20 per class.

Tuesday, August 28, 2001: Master classes from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Mannes Concert Hall. Admission is $20 per class.
"On Schubert Reading Poetry," the evening lecture, will take place from 5:15 PM – 6:15 PM at Mannes’s Goldmark Hall. Admission is $10 per ticket.

Wednesday, August 29, 2001: Master classes from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Mannes Concert Hall. Admission is $20 per class.
