"LIGHT LANDSCAPES"

KIDI, PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN'S AFFILIATE IN JAPAN, TO EXHIBIT AT THE
ISAMU NOGUCHI SCULPTURE GARDEN MUSEUM

SEPTEMBER 16 - OCTOBER 31, 2001

(New York, NY – July 3, 2001) In celebration of their 10th Anniversary, Parsons School of Design's Japan affiliate, Kanazawa International Design Institute (KIDI), will be holding an exhibition from September 16 through October 31, 2001 at the Isamu Noguchi Sculpture Garden Museum in Long Island City, New York. Also commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Akari Light Sculpture, the exhibition will include lamps and lighting prototypes along with large scale, collapsible structures that refer to designer Isamu Noguchi's examination of nature and geometric form.

KIDI students were asked to reconsider Noguchi's work and develop a new generation of lighting systems, in many cases utilizing traditional materials of rice paper and bamboo. Also included in this exhibition will be a selection of graphic images (posters) that draw their inspiration from the language of Japanese light and lighting as well as a photo documentation of Noguchi working on early lighting concepts

KIDI, established in 1991, is an affiliate of the Parsons School of Design, a division of New School University. KIDI offers a two-year undergraduate degree in Architecture, Product, and Graphic Design. The school of approximately 100 students has established itself as a major center for progressive international design with recent graduates working throughout the world. With an international, multi-lingual faculty, the school provides students with a rich combination of traditional Japanese and international design education.

The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum is located at 33rd and Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, Queens. Museum hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10AM - 5PM and Saturday and Sunday from 11AM - 6 PM. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. For more information, call the Noguchi Museum at 718-721-1932 or log on to www.noguchi.org.
