JOFFREY/NEW SCHOOL UNIVERSITY B.F.A. DANCERS TO PRESENT "L'AIR D'ESPRIT" SPRING DANCE PERFORMANCE ON FRIDAY, MAY 4, 8 PM AND SATURDAY, MAY 5, 8 PM AT THE TRIBECA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

GUEST ARTISTS MAIA WILKINS AND DAVIS ROBERTSON FROM THE JOFFREY BALLET WILL BE DANCING IN JOFFREY DIRECTOR GERALD ARPINO'S "L'AIR D'ESPRIT"

(New York, NY � April 10, 2001) Joffrey/New School University B.F.A.program dancers will present a spring performance, "L'Air d'Esprit," on Friday, May 4, 8 PM, and Saturday, May 5, 8 PM at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center (Borough of Manhattan Community College) at 199 Chambers Street (between Greenwich Street and the West Side Highway) in NYC. (By subway, take the #1,2,3,9 or A,C,E lines.) The students will be joined by special guest artists, Maia Wilkins and Davis Robertson, from the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Orchestra seats are $20; mezzanine seats are $15; and students and seniors tickets are $10. The Director of the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Gerald Arpino, and Joffrey faculty members Daniel Baudendistel, Eleanor D'Antuono, Kathryn Posin, Trinette Singleton, Ginger Thatcher, Karla Wolfangle, and Rebecca Wright will choreograph works for the evening.

Rebecca Wright, Chair of the Joffrey/New School University program, remarked: "The evening at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center will showcase the talented, young dancers and show great diversity and artistic range. We're thrilled that Joffrey Ballet stars, Maia Wilkins and Davis Robertson, will join the students, and that the prestigious Joffrey faculty have taken the time to choreograph works for the performance."

The 57 dancers in the Joffrey/New School University B.F.A. program range in age from 18-22. They come from all over the United States.

The internationally acclaimed Joffrey Ballet School formed a partnership with New School University to create a Bachelor of Fine Arts program in dance. The Joffrey Ballet School was founded in 1952 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino to develop and train professional dancers. The program incorporates the professional classical ballet training and standards of the Joffrey Ballet School and the interdisciplinary courses at New School University. Both institutions are located in NYC's Greenwich Village.
