Joffrey/New School University dance program to present a studio showing on Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8 at LaGuardia High School

(New York, NY -- November 27, 2000) Dancers in the Joffrey/New School University B.F.A. program will present a studio showing of choreographic works on Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8. Rebecca Wright, chair of the program, organized the event. Showings will begin at 5 PM and 7 PM each evening at LaGuardia High School, 100 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street, 8th Floor, NYC (#1 train to Lincoln Center). Admission is free. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are suggested by calling (212) 505-0585.

Pieces will be choreographed by several faculty members: Trinette Singleton, a former Joffrey ballerina, has set her work to Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2; Ginger Thatcher, a former dancer with Lar Lubovitch, will show a modern ballet, "Corelli Variations"; and Kathryn Posin will choreograph a jazz ballet to Chico Hamilton’s composition "Timely" and a work to"Son Cubano" with music by Zap Mama. Student works from composition classes, choreographic projects and collaborations with New School University’s Jazz and Contemporary Music program, will also be performed.

The Joffrey Ballet School/New School University B.F.A. is a program with a world-class faculty. It offers dancers the opportunity to earn a B.F.A. degree in dance, combining training for a professional career with a unique liberal arts education. Classical, Contemporary, Ballet, Modern Dance, and related dance studies are taught.

Other upcoming events for the Joffrey/New School dancers include final performances on Friday, May 4, 2001 and Saturday, May 5, 2001 at the Tribeca Arts Center, 199 Chambers Street in NYC.
