MILANO GRADUATE SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE OPENING OF NEW HOME
WITH WEEK-LONG SERIES OF PUBLIC EVENTS

Scholars, Policy Makers and Leaders to Kick Off Opening of
Jonathan and Cynthia Fanton Hall

New School University’s Robert J. Milano Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy will celebrate the opening of its new home, Jonathan and Cynthia Fanton Hall, 72 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, with a series of events focusing on current policy issues.

Among the featured speakers will be Alice Rivlin of the Brookings Institution, Angelo Falcon of the Institute for Puerto Rican Policy and Dr. Donna Shelley of the Tobacco Control Board of the City of New York. Other policy leaders and decision-makers from the New York area will participate in discussions and panels.

The events are to honor Jonathan Fanton, former president of New School University and his wife Cynthia Greenleaf Fanton, formerly assistant provost of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Mr. Fanton is currently the president of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in Chicago. Mr. Fanton served as president of New School University, formerly the New School for Social Research, from 1982 to 1999. The Milano Graduate School is one of seven divisions of the University.

After an invitation-only dedication ceremony, the public celebration will begin on Friday, November 10, 2000 at 3:30 PM with a lecture on the future of cities by Alice Rivlin, Senior Fellow in Economic Studies at Brookings Institution and former Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Board.

Other public events include:
A lecture on the state of civil rights in Latino and African-American communities by Angelo Falcon, Senior Policy Executive, Puerto Rican Defense Fund; and Director, Institute for Puerto Rican Policy. (Monday, November 13, 6 PM, 72 Fifth Avenue. Free admission)

• A discussion on ethical issues faced by American managers in overseas offices of multinational corporations.

• A conference on immigrants in New York City, co-hosted by the J.M. Kaplan Center for New York City Affairs, the
Women’s City Club of New York and the International Center for Migration, Ethnicity and Citizenship at New School University.

• A report on the impact of the tobacco industry on women and minorities by Dr. Donna Shelley, Director of the
Tobacco Control Program for the City of New York. (Thursday, November 16, 5:30 PM, 72 Fifth Avenue. Free admission)
