Since 2000, new financial instruments in the credit sector served as the catalyst for huge financial gains. Seven years later, these same innovations would be blamed for the current market upheaval and anticipated economic recession. However, these mechanics of the credit market bubble have yet to be traced back to the root causes of misleading monetary policy and central banks. Bob Kerrey, president of The New School, and Professor Salih Neftci, director of the Global Finance master’s program at The New School for Social Research, join to diagnose the origins of the current crisis and offer needed solutions to reduce future risks.
