Panel Discussion on the Immigrant Community’s Effect on the Presidential Race
The Center for New York City Affairs Presents:
“Deconstructing the Immigrant Vote: A Feet in Two Worlds Town Hall”
WHAT:
|
As Senator McCain rolls out attack ads against Senator Obama on immigration policy, conventional wisdom on the campaign trail reveals that immigrant voters are set to play an increased role in this year’s presidential election. Yet the opinions and concerns of immigrant communities are often overlooked by mainstream media. The Center for New York City Affairs will host a panel of reporters, immigrant advocates, analysts and grassroots organizers to discuss how the increasing role of immigrant voters is affecting the political landscape of the 2008 presidential election. The participants will focus on the top issues and priorities for today’s immigrant voters and discuss how the nation’s immigrant communities respond to the candidates’ efforts to woo them.
The Town Hall is sponsored by the Feet in Two Worlds project at the Center for New York City Affairs at Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy. The program provides training and mentoring for immigrant journalists while bringing new voices into the discussions of immigration, globalization and transnational culture.
