Sprat Theatre Company: "One Day in the Life of Henri Shnuffle"
Sprat Theatre Company is a multi-generational group of artists I founded. Our debut work, "One Day in the Life of Henri Shnuffle," is a site-specific, immersive theatre piece highlighting the life of one elderly man as an illustration of the larger elderly population. Through the play, the audience learns about Shnuffle’s daily struggles, which include limited physical ability, isolation and the onset of dementia. The performance takes place in an actual apartment, redesigned by our artistic team. The play will be performed in various non-traditional venues to insure accessibility and diversity among its audience. We hope to broaden our audiences by traveling to nursing homes, community centers, and schools in the future. With these traveling performances, we hope to start the discussion at the source, engaging senior citizens, as well as other generations, in a dialogue about the necessary improvements to our social and economic systems that are in place to support the elderly.
The play debuted in New York in May 2013, and was reviewed in The New York Times:
