Undefined Mold-Form Defined

Undefined Mold-Form Defined is an exploration of an alternative slip-casting process for fabricating one-of-a-kind ceramic objects.

Typical slip casting involves the use of solid plaster molds, but instead, pieces of leather are sewn together to make a flexible mold. The porosity of leather, a natural membrane, allows for water absorption from the clay to the mold.

The fabrication process also relies on the flexible yet structural materiality of leather. Each leather mold can be repeatedly used several times, and every casting will result in one-of-a-kind forms with subtle variations.
