Your Food Is On Its Way - Presentation and Discussion

Your Food Is On Its Way is a project by artist Annie Shaw on the livelihoods of delivery men in the food industry. Food delivery is part of the fabric of life in New York City, a service provided by a transient workforce that remains largely invisible to the public it serves. The very phrase "your food is on its way" omits any reference to the person delivering the meals. This project exposes the material reality of four delivery men's physical labor through the tools they use, the routes they take, the money they make, and the stories they share. Accompanying the project is a newspaper that includes interviews with the delivery men, information on local grassroots organizing, and coverage of the Domino Pizza's Workers Rally, scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 13, at noon at 464 3rd Avenue, New York City.

Presented by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics in collaboration with the Program of Food Studies at The New School for Public Engagement, on the occasion of the Social Research conference Food & Immigrant Life, on April 18 and 19, 2013.
