School of Design Strategies Exhibition

- 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The School of Design Strategies (SDS) is an experimental educational environment in which students develop innovative approaches to design, business, and education. In a context of constantly evolving cities, services, and ecosystems, SDS explores design as both a tool and a strategy for devising environmentally conscious practices for use by individuals, communities, and organizations.

Curated by Aileen Wilson, the works featured in this exhibition present strategy in action. How can we use design thinking to promote change, to foster creativity, to envision the new urban? How can design be employed to improve or reimagine established systems, from fashion to health care to housing? In light of the diverse challenges facing modern societies, how can we use all of our abilities to effect change? The School of Design Strategies confronts questions like these through rigorous research and application. This exhibition presents outcomes of these practices.

Aileen Wilson lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, where she is currently Associate Professor, Art and Design Education, Pratt Institute. She earned a BA (Hons) 1st class Printmaking/Painting, Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, Scotland; an MA in Printmaking, Chelsea School of Art, London, UK; and an EdD in Art/Art Education, Teacher’s College, Columbia University, New York City. Confirmed as a Fulbright specialist roster candidate 2010–2015, she was a Fulbright specialist grantee to Iceland in 2011 and 2012.
