Career Pathways Lecture with Dr. Ashley Mears

Dr. Ashley Mears, assistant professor of Sociology and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Boston University is a writer on fashion in both academia and journalistic fields and will be speaking about her research and career path in and out of academia.

Dr. Mears completed her Ph.D. at New York University in Sociology with a focus on culture, markets and gender. Her first book, Pricing Beauty (University of California Press), examines the backstage work and labor of models, agents, and clients who create the fashion ‘look’ in modeling markets. Her articles have appeared in academic journals such as Ethnography, Poetics, and Social Forces and in journalistic form including the NY Times, Elle, and various blogs.
