Christian Bason: Design for Public Sector Innovation

6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

The current financial, economic, and social crises in the United States and Europe have placed renewed pressure on public-sector organizations to radically reinvent themselves and generate more value for society. Design has great potential as a means of introducing innovation into public policies and services, but to bring about systemic change, design must be anchored and practiced within government agencies.

These issues are addressed by Christian Bason, director of MindLab, which serves as an innovation platform for the ministries of Business and Growth, Employment, and Taxation in the Danish government. MindLab’s mission is to involve citizens and business in jointly developing public policies and services. Before joining MindLab, Bason led Ramboll, a leading public organization and management consultancy. Bason is the author of four books on leadership, innovation, and change in the public sector, most recently Leading Public Sector Innovation: Co-creating for a Better Society (Policy Press, 2010).

This event is presented by the Parsons Desis Lab as part of the Public & Collaborative NYC Lecture Series.
