This event has unfortunately been cancelled

The Visiting Artists Lecture Series is sponsored by the School of Art, Media, and Technology (AMT) at Parsons The New School for Design. Organized by Coco Fusco, director of Intermedia Initiatives at AMT, the series invites renowned artists from around the world to give free public presentations each Wednesday.

Antonio Vega Macotela lives in Mexico City and Amsterdam. In 2001, he graduated from the National School of Fine Arts ENAP-UNAM, where he began his public and social art research. Vega Macotela’s multidisciplinary, site-specific work explores notions of exchange, specifically currency as a device through which social relations are established. In his recent project Time Exchange, Vega Macotela conducted individual exchanges with inmates at the Santa Martha Acatila prison in Mexico to explore the possibility of replacing money with a time-sharing system. He was the co-editor of the publication Multiple Media 2 in 2008. His works have been exhibited in such venues as the Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM), Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, the Laboratorio Arte Alameda Mexico City, and the 29th São Paolo Biennial. Vega Macotela is currently in residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and his work is featured in the Generational exhibition at the New Museum.
