Public Art Fund Talks at The New School: Roger Hiorns

6:30 p.m.

Talks take place February 8, March 28, and April 11.

Using nontraditional materials—from jet engines to animal parts to nitrates— Roger Hiorns’ sculptures, performances, and installations investigate the possibility of transformation in objects, social encounters, and urban settings. In his 2009 installation Seizure, he pumped 75,000 liters of copper sulfate solution into an abandoned South London council apartment, creating a crystalline growth on the walls, floor, and ceiling. In his February 8 talk, Hiorns will consider the subject of transformation in relation to his recent works.

Roger Hiorns lives and works in London. His work has appeared in solo exhibitions at the Aspen Art Museum in Colorado (2010), Art Institute of Chicago (2010), Tate Britain (2009), Camden Arts Centre in London (2007), and UCLA Hammer Museum in Los Angeles (2003). In 2009 Hiorns was nominated for the Turner Prize for his installation Seizure.
