The Either Orchestra Plays Tishman Auditorium

The School of Art, Media, and Technology and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music co-host the Either/Orchestra (E/O) in the premiere of bandleader Russ Gershon’s suite The Collected Unconscious.

Based on the modes (scales) and rhythms of Ethiopian music, the new piece suggests Ellington, Mingus, and Tito Puente. Audiences will find it moving and poignant as well as exciting and challenging.

New England’s premier jazz ensemble, the ten-piece Either/Orchestra is a Grammy nominee and perennial poll winner. The orchestra’s live show is a dazzling blend of Latin rhythms, precision big band ensemble work, and Ethiopian sounds. The tight six-piece horn section is matched by a rhythm section of piano, bass, drums, and congas featuring musicians from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Brazil. Critics and audiences worldwide have savored the E/O’s music in more than 1,000 performances, 11 CDs, and a DVD.
