An Internship Work Contract is required for all for-credit internships at Parsons. Parsons does not provide proof of credit registration letters.
Filling out the Internship Work Contract
All Internship Work Contracts must be filled out digitally—paper copies will not be accepted.
If you experience difficulties using the digital Internship Work Contract, read the Troubleshooting page or contact our office at 212.229.8940 or at parsonscareers@newschool.edu.
To complete the Internship Work Contract, both the student and the employer need Adobe Reader 8.0 or higher, which may be downloaded here.
Step 1:
The student downloads the Internship Work Contract.
Step 2:
Using Adobe Reader, the student fills out all fields of the Internship Work Contract marked "Student."
International Students (on F-1 and J-1 visas) must fill out both the Internship Work Contract and the ISS Online Service Request Form. Checking the "international student" box on the Internship Work Contract will activate an ISS online service request form. If a link does not open, an ISS Service Request can be made here.
International Students may not start their internship (including zero-credit internships) until both the Internship Work Contract and the ISS Online Service Request have been returned to them with proper authorization.
Allow three business days after submission of both forms for International Student Services to issue an updated I-20/DS-2019 showing internship/CPT authorization.
Step 3:
The student signs the student signature line at the bottom of the Internship Work Contract by selecting the student signature field. When the pop-up box asking "how do you want to sign?" appears, the student selects "New Digital ID."
A disclaimer will pop up; the student clicks "continue" and fills out the following required fields:
The student selects "create" to complete their profile.
To digitally sign the document, the student enters his or her password (created in the previous step). Students must save the document in order to sign it.
View PowerPoint presentation for assistance.
Step 4:
The student saves the Internship Work Contract using their N number, degree, and major. For example: N12345678ArchitectureBFA.pdf
Step 5:
The student emails the Internship Work Contract to their internship supervisor (their employer) to fill out the employer section of the form.
Step 6:
The student confirms that their supervisor has submitted the Internship Work Contract to Parsons. If the employer delays in submitting the Internship Work Contract, the student should follow up by email or phone.
The following is an example of a professional, polite reminder:
"I am inquiring about the status of the Internship Work Contract that I emailed to you on September 1. In order for me to register for this internship, the university requires the employer to return the completed Internship Work Contract with a digital signature. Please let me know if you're having any problem with the form or need more information before you complete it. Thank you."
Step 7:
The Employer fills out the section of the Internship Work Contract marked "Employer." All fields must be filled out in order to submit the contract.
Step 8:
The employer signs the employer signature line at the bottom of the Internship Work Contract by selecting the employer signature field. When the pop-up box asking "how do you want to sign?" appears, the employer selects "New Digital ID."
A disclaimer will pop up; the employer clicks "continue" and fills out the following required fields:
The employer selects "create" to complete their profile.
To digitally sign the document, the employer enters their password (created in the previous step). Employers must save the document in order to sign it.
View PowerPoint presentation for assistance.
Step 9:
The employer selects the "Employer Press Here to Submit" button on the Internship Work Contract. This action will email the Internship Work Contract to Parsons at advisingparsonsinterns@newschool.edu.
Step 10:
The Internship Work Contract is forwarded to the student's Academic Advisor (or his or her Faculty of Record for the internship for students in the School of Design Strategies).
The Academic Advisor/Faculty of Record reviews the Internship Work Contract to confirm that the start and end date are within the semester and that the internship hours are feasible given the student's course load.
Step 11:
The Academic Advisor/Faculty of Record emails the student the CRN to register for their internship. If the student is registering past the add/drop deadline, they will be given instructions for adding the internship course.
Step 12:
The student registers for their internship either by logging into my.newschool.edu or by bringing an add/drop form to the Office of the Registrar. Students should refer to the email from their Academic Advisor/Faculty of Record for instructions.
Step 13:
The student's Academic Advisor/Faculty of Record signs off on the Internship Work Contract and forwards it either to International Student Services or to Parsons Career Services.
Step 14: (International Students ONLY)
International Student Services receives the Internship Work Contract and confirms the student is registered and has completed an ISS Service Request. When all paperwork is complete, they sign the Internship Work Contract, approving it.
Step 15:
Parsons Career Services holds all final Internship Work Contracts, forwarding a copy to the student and one to the employer. An Internship Work Contract with all signatures in place is a legally binding document that both students and employers must adhere to.
