Susanne Schindler is an architect, writer, and editor based in Princeton, New Jersey.
Schindler's work focuses on the intersection of housing policy and design. She is a co-author of the book Growing Urban Habitats: Seeking a New Housing Development Model (2009), and, most recently, guest-editor of Bauwelt 10/2012, “Affordable Housing New York.”
As a founding member of the design think tank Team R8, she is working on new housing typologies for single and extended households in New York. R8 is a part of “Making Room,” an initiative to reform New York City building code as it relates to housing. She has worked as a consultant to Enterprise Community Partners, National Design Initiatives on efforts to improve the quality of design in housing.
Schindler is a founding co-editor of Candide. Journal for Architectural Knowledge, a peer-reviewed periodical dedicated to the culture of knowledge specific to architecture, published twice a year in print and online.
Schindler holds a B.A. in history from Columbia University and an architecture degree (Dipl.-Ing.) from the University of the Arts in Berlin.
