  • Adam Ames is one half of the conceptual art collaborative Type A. New York based Type A is the collaboration of Adam Ames (born 1969; BA 1991 UPenn, MFA 1997 SVA) and Andrew Bordwin (born 1964; BA 1987 NYU)._The collaborative_has been working together since April 16th, 1998. Their video, video installation, photography, sculpture and drawing deal with issues of masculinity, competition and collaboration in contemporary society. Type A has exhibited extensively around the world, including such institutions as The Indianapolis Museum of Art (Indianapolis, IN), The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (Ridgefield, CT), The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery (Saratoga Springs, NY), The DeCordova Sculpture Park + Museum (Lincoln, MA), The Luckman Fine Art Complex at California State University (Los Angeles, CA), The Walker Art Center (Minneapolis, MN), Art in General (New York, NY), The Addison Gallery of American Art (Andover, MA), The List Visual Arts Center at MIT (Cambridge, MA), Centrum Beeldende Kunst (Rotterdam, The Netherlands), Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City, Mexico), Contemporary Art Center (New Orleans, LA), Institute of Contemporary Art (Palm Beach, FL), UCLA Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, CA) and The Johnson Museum at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) in addition to many galleries. Type A will have solo exhibitions at the MCA Denver in 2012. Hatje Cantz published a monograph of their work in collaboration with the IMA in September 2009. The collaborative teaches at Parsons The New School for Design.
