Lisa Grocott is a communication designer, educator and researcher at Parsons where she has spent the last six years as a dean of academic initiatives. Lisa's design research and administrative practice work with visualizations that explore the discursive agency of ambiguous communication. This studio practice informs Lisa's scholarship as well as her curricular-based administrative work and pedagogical commitment to practice-led design research. Before arriving in New York, Lisa was director of the Communication Design Masters at RMIT University and creative director at Studio Anybody, (1998-2004) in Melbourne, Australia. The communication design studio fostered a culture of practice-led research within a professional practice environment, directly informing the critically acclaimed collective whose work was published in Australia, USA, Netherlands, Japan and the UK. Lisa has a BFA in Graphic Design and American Studies from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand; a MFA in Painting and a M.Des in Communication Design from RMIT University, Australia. Lisa's project-based PhD explores the reflective agency of design research, she is now exploring how these ideas translate to the K12 environment and design-based learning.
