Sara Kozlowski is a design maker, explorer and strategist with twenty years experience in fashion and education. As Parsons alum, Sara holds a BFA in Fashion Design with Byron Lars & Anna Sui Golden Thimble Awards and dMBA in Design Strategy, California College of the Arts. At CCA, her Thesis, The Thread Union modeled a print on demand design platform serving the third space between education and industry. Serving School of Fashion as Director of External Projects, she curates opportunities for student engagement through relationships that include Kering, Style.com, Luxottica, Coach, Esprit, Louis Vuitton, Amazon Fashion, Allen Edmonds, NYCEDC, and HSUS.

Her design career began with recruitment by Anna Sui followed by the launch of her own brand, sara kozlowski: CAKE. Steven Alan represented the collection, selling at 40+ accounts worldwide, including Barneys, Intermix, TG-170, Browns, United Arrows, & Mitsukoshi. During its 6 years, CAKE., presented during NYFW seasonally and was featured editorially in WWD, Vogue, New York Times, Gap Japan, Bazaar, and Figaro and worn by Bjork, Chloe Sevigny, and Milla Jovovich. Freelance textile, graphic, illustration and design projects included Anna Sui Jeans & Isetan, Steven Alan Men’s, Beams, Zoetrope and Shiseido.

Full time educator of a decade, she currently teaches within the MFA Fashion Design & Society and BFA programs specializing in collection, and mapping and making within design systems. Prior to Parsons, she was Assistant Director of Fashion, Academy Art University, San Francisco supporting curriculum for BFA and MFA, and Coordinator/ Senior Lecturer, Raffles DHU, Shanghai. From laser cut silkscreened wooden dresses (WOW), to subscription based clothing systems (Design Ignites Change) her teaching ethos is holistic believing that design often happens on the body, in dialogue between maker and wearer. Exploration and experimentation are encouraged to nurture innovative processes and cultivate distinct design identities. 

Student achievements have included numerous CFDA scholarship and external partnership awards, and successful global post graduation placements. She has also contributed to the curricula of new program offerings including MPS Fashion Strategies and Executive Education for The New School.
