  • Maya Ciarrocchi’s work in video, photography, installation and performance addresses identity and otherness via documentation and durational portraiture. Her work has been exhibited in New York at: Anthology Film Archives, Chashama, The Chocolate Factory, Microscope Gallery, New York Live Arts, Sasha Wolf Gallery, among other institutions, and at Artisphere, (VA) Hammer Museum (CA); Borderlines Film Festival (UK); Moving Pictures Festival (CAN). Residencies include Baryshnikov Arts Center (NY), Kala Art Institute (CA), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council: Swing Space and Process Space (NY), and Ucross Foundation (WY). In another life as a dance artist, Ciarrocchi’s work was presented at Danspace Project, Dixon Place, and The Kitchen among other venues. The Franklin Furnace Fund, The Jerome Foundation and Puffin Foundation have funded her work and she received a Jeff Award and a New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for her work as a projections designer. She has had the pleasure of collaborating with such choreographers and theater directors as Wally Cardona, Ping Chong, David Cromer, Merce Cunningham, Kristin Marting, Bebe Miller, Donna Uchizono and Talvin Wilks among many others. Ciarrocchi received her M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts and her B.F.A. from SUNY Purchase.
