  • Jeffrey Lieber studied art history at Vassar College and received his Ph.D. in the History of Art from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His work brings together art history, architectural history, and visual culture studies, including film studies, gender studies, literature, and philosophy. He has a broad background in the history of art and architecture from the Renaissance to the present. His current projects include a book on modern architecture and its relationship to changing democratic ideals in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. His articles and essays have appeared in Design and Culture, Harvard Design Magazine, the Berlin-based journal Bauwelt, the Neue Zurcher Zeitung, and the series American National Biography published by Oxford University Press. He has taught in the History of Art and Visual Culture Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has received grants for his work from The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, Study Abroad Italy, The A.W. Mellon Foundation, and the French Ministry of Culture.
