  • Urshula, co-founder of Pure+Applied, is a designer, writer and teacher. Before starting Pure+Applied, she was a Center for Women in Government Fellow at SUNY, Albany where she did public policy work for nonprofits such as the Statewide Emergency Network for Social and Economic Security. As a fellow, she coauthored a publication on model emergency food programs and authored a policy paper on the importance of asset accumulation in fostering economic security in minority communities. She has written about military uniform design and nonlethal weapons for I.D. and vernacular signage for Print magazine. Urshula teaches design at Parsons, The New School for Design. She has taught at City College, The Cooper Union, and Pratt Institute. She has been a speaker or panelist for events at the Center for Architecture / AIANY, Columbia University, NeoCon Furniture Fair, Parsons The New School for Design, Penn State University, SUNY Binghamton, Tufts University and Yale University. Urshula holds masters degrees from the New School Graduate Faculty (where she explored the cultural and social construction of olfactory scapes) and from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelors from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.
