Assistant Professor of Communication Design
Julia Gorton is a designer, illustrator, photographer and collaborator. She started her career as a photographer and visual editor of a punk music fanzine, landed her first job as an editorial designer at National Lampoon, worked freelance at Condé Nast and art directed at Fairchild Publications. As an illustrator, Julia has over 20 children’s books to her name with various publishing houses including Scholastic, Abrams, Simon and Shuster and Hyperion Books for Children.
She is currently the Director of Graphic Design and Printmaking, and has been a member of the Communication Design faculty for over 20 years.
Interests include team-based work, collaborating, research, the design process, products and packages, words and typography, people and street photography, making images and talking to strangers.
