EXITS: LEAVEs OF ABSENCE AND WITHDRAWAL FROM a PROGRAM

Taking a Leave of Absence

Students in good academic standing who need to interrupt their studies for personal reasons, should petition for a leave of absence by meeting with the advisor in their school and completing the official Exit Form. Leaves of absence are typically approved for one or two semesters, depending on the curriculum and academic requirements of the program and the nature of the student's request. Medical leaves of absence require appropriate documentation.

Withdrawing from a Degree Program

Students who wish to withdraw completely from the university must meet with the advisor in their school and complete the official Exit Form. A student who withdraws and later wishes to return to the university must reapply through the Office of Admission.

READMISSION

A student seeking to return to the university must apply for readmission if he or she

  • was dismissed
  • did not complete the official Exit form before taking a leave or withdrawing
  • applied but was not approved for a leave of absence
  • was approved for a leave of absence but did not return within the approved time frame
  • withdrew from his/her program of study with or without an Exit Form
  • failed to return to classes after completing a professional certificate program with liberal arts credit still to complete

If you dropped out and meet any of these criteria, review the readmission policy and complete the Readmission Application (Adobe PDF).

If you case does not meet any of the above criteria, contact the Office of Advising for instructions.

Deadlines: To be considered for readmission for the next fall semester, you must submit the complete application no later than March 1, and for the next spring semester no later than August 1.

Students may take summer courses for transfer credit at another institution provided 1) they are in good academic standing, 2) they have not already transferred the maximum number of credits allowed, 3) they have completed their required first-year courses, and 4) they obtain pre-approval from a Parsons advisor to transfer the credit. Bring the summer course catalog from the other institution to your advisor and complete the Permission to Take Courses at Another Institution form Adobe PDF).
