In his keynote speech, Nate Silver called upon all graduates to improve on the legacy of their predecessors: “Don’t do what the previous generation did,” he said, “do better.” Silver, whose statistical analysis for New York Times blog “FiveThirtyEight” caught the attention of millions during the 2012 presidential election, urged those seated before him to create new opportunity from previous generations’ failures.
This fall, a group of undergraduates from Eugene Lang The New School for Liberal Arts are taking the class Youth Mentoring in the City and working in conjunction with the Cornerstone Mentoring Program on an initiative that serves 300 New York City youth in grades five through nine.
Welcome to The New School’s University Center, a new focal point for our campus and neighborhood, currently being built on 14th Street. With a design as distinctive as The New School itself, the University Center will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including fully wired “smart” classrooms, design studios, a student residence, and an auditorium with a convertible runway.
