The International Center for Migration, Ethnicity, and Citizenship at The New School (ICMEC), founded in 1993, is a collaborative undertaking encompassing interdisciplinary scholarly research, public policy analysis, and education on international migration, refugees, and the incorporation of newcomers into host societies. Subjects of the center's research and policy analysis include the causes of migration and refugee flows; the effects of immigration and emigration on the politics and policies of sending, transit, and receiving countries; global governance of migration; and the implications of these phenomena for contemporary notions of sovereignty and citizenship. The center hosts conferences, workshops, and community forums that bring together international and local scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to develop collaborative projects and promote dialogue on migration.
