This course considers a series of significant texts in contemporary environmental political thought. Themes to be considered may include: the relationship between environment and sovereignty; new environmental surveillance and its relationship to media spectacle; the rise of liberal rights for nonhuman life; the role of place in environmentalism; environment and immigration and borders; the politics of environmental sacrifice; the relationship between science and democracy; and thinking ecology after nature.
