Sociology of Religion & City
Term:

This seminar asks a double question. On one level we will try to think about the place that religions play in the city globally, and especially in the modern American city, but also in other part of the world--how people find religious practices to be one way of navigating city life. On another level, as religions are not immutable "things" we will try to see how the experiences of living in the city shapes the way religions are imagined and practiced. In other words, the question is not about a reaction but about an interaction between urban ways of life and religious practices.
