This lecture course will explore Nietzsche's thought from "The Birth of Tragedy" to those unpublished notes and manuscripts from the end of his career collected under the title "The Will to Power." The aim will be to appreciate the complexity of Nietzsche's thought, in particular with respect to the manifold challenge to modernity, rationalism, and religion that it represents, but above all we will pursue a very basic question: "Who was Nietzsche?"
