Students from Parsons The New School for Design, Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy, and Stevens Institute of Technology have teamed up to compete in the Solar Decathlon, a biennial competition hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy that challenges college teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses to be exhibited on the National Mall.

Taking the competition beyond the mall and into the community, the team will partner with Habitat for Humanity to create affordable housing in the northeastern DC neighborhood of Deanwood, where the solar-powered house will live following the competition.

In September 2010, the team hosted a "site-warming" event at the Deanwood site to introduce the project to the community.

Parsons The New School for Design, Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy, and Stevens Institute of Technology set out to build solar-powered home for residents in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and District of Columbia.
