Blogging with Dean Lisa Servon

Where the Classroom Meets the Real World

Do You Blog?

While I’m a relatively new blogger, I’m starting to get the hang of it and I really appreciate the opportunity to write about what's going on at Milano and The New School, as well as to share what I’m thinking about and working on. Over the past few years, the blog world has exploded. I’m always looking to see what blogs students, colleagues, and friends are reading or blogging about themselves.

So let me know…

  • Do you have a blog? Or have you ever thought about starting one?
  • What blogs (or types of blogs) do you keep up with and read? Which is your favorite?

For me, the best aspects about blogging are being able to share my perspectives with others quickly, as well as providing a record or “history” that allows me to look back and see what has taken place. Send me your blog links and we’ll post them here.

Be well-

Lisa

Wow! It's terrific to see how many of you are blogging and using other types of social media. I'd love to know your suggestions for what more we can do here at the school to keep you informed, and connected to each other. Let us know! Lisa

A style blogger friend pointed me towards this blog: http://www.academichic.com/ Also enjoy PSFK because of their great pulse on design innovations: http://www.psfk.com/ There's also a great network for women bloggers called BlogHer that does a lot of great community and economic empowerment work: http://www.blogher.com

Hi Lisa, First of all, I think it's really cool of you to have a blog and it's a great way to communicate with students. I'm one of the students blogging as part of the Milano-Idealist grad school resource blog, (along with Tushar Gogia and Kristen Demaline). We have been using the blog as a way to share our Milano experiences with our fellow classmates, family, friends, prospective students and anyone interested in learning more about a public service grad school program. If you haven't checked it out yet, you definitely should: http://idealistmilanoblog.wordpress.com/ Good luck with the blog!

Hello Lisa! I'm a second year full-time urban policy student. I'm part of the great generation that grew up blogging with services such as Angelfire and Livejournal - so I've been blogging off and on for more than a decade now. Mostly it's just always been a way of sharing with a network of friends who are also blogging. In more recent years it's really picked up as a way of sharing content (via links and embedded content). Generally I've found the best blogs to be focused on a single subject (which puts you in good stead as a Dean-blogger) - updating frequently and regularly is also a must (regularity takes precedence over frequency). For the last year or so I've been blogging at my website www.jayackley.com as a way of writing about and sharing the music i make with my friends - and a place to show off pictures i've stumbled across and other random loveliness from our collective brain. I've enjoyed following your blog so far and i hope you are well. regards! Jay
