Leadership that Creates Change
The capacity to create organizational and social change offers a professional advantage in a wide number of fields. The Organizational Change Management (OCM) program is designed for people with a keen interest in the way change happens. Students come to the program from a wide array of organization types that span the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. Their shared commitment is to facilitating and leading change. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of organizational experience.
Working professionals are welcome—the OCM program can be completed through part-time or full-time study. The curriculum is designed for students who are already engaged in change-related professional roles, those transitioning into organizational change management or consulting from another field, and managers who see the effective implementation of change as critical to their professional success.
Our highly regarded academic and practitioner faculty provide students with the models and tools needed to implement planned change at all organizational levels: individual, group, and organizational. Coursework focuses on leadership development and coaching, building teams and project groups, working effectively with clients, restructuring and realigning work processes, managing diversity and difference, and articulating vision, structure, and culture.
The OCM program offers a unique laboratory type pedagogy known as the Portfolio, in which students complete a series of increasingly complex organizational change projects conducted with real clients. Upon completion of the sequence, each student has a portfolio that showcases the results of their organizational change expertise.
The Curriculum
The curriculum of the Organizational Change Management program is designed to develop competencies to lead change initiatives. The Master of Science in Organizational Change Management requires successful completion of 42 credits.

Additional Requirements
Full-time students with little or no relevant professional experience must complete a professional internship (minimum of 400 hours). Internships sharpen students’ competencies and build confidence through intensive involvement with other professionals in actual work settings. Recognizing the importance of understanding the global environment, Milano management programs also require all students to complete an international component, which can be fulfilled either through approved coursework or international fieldwork.
Electives
To complete the course of study, Organization Change Management students choose four electives that fit their professional goals and/or competency needs.
Certificate Programs
Milano offers several Post-Master's Professional Certificates, which can be earned in conjunction with or after a master's degree. A certificate attests that the student has received specialized training in a defined competency. Students who are enrolled in relevant master's degree programs at The New School can concurrently complete a management certificate by choosing appropriate electives.
